Ottawa, ON – Michael Chong, Conservative candidate for Wellington-Halton Hills North, released the following statement:
“Today the Government of Canada’s SITE task force confirmed what many Canadians feared, that once again, just as they did in 2019 and 2021, Beijing’s Communist Party is interfering in Canada’s national election.
“What SITE confirmed is that once again, Beijing is trying to spread information to support the Liberal Party of Canada. They confirmed that the Chinese Communist Party was behind an information campaign to amplify narratives supporting Liberal leader Mark Carney in a ‘coordinated and inauthentic way’.
“This information campaign sought to portray Carney as ‘tough’ in his dealings with the United States, even trying to tell Canadians that Carney is a ‘rock star.’ It also sought to play up his ‘credentials and experience,’ saying:
After all, Carney is a veteran who has been working in the financial circle for many years and is well-versed in the routine of ‘speaking with data’. As soon as he came to power, he quickly launched a tax reduction policy. For example, he proposed to reduce taxes on the middle class and reduce the minimum tax rate by 1%. At the same time, he waved his hand and abolished the carbon emission tax. This ‘combination punch’ tried to please voters with the strategy of ‘giving money + environmental protection’.
“Make no mistake, the Communist Party in Beijing is engaging in a sophisticated campaign to interfere in Canada’s election with the aim of re-electing Mark Carney and the Liberals for a fourth term.
“They know that for a decade the Liberals have turned a blind eye to Beijing’s interference in Canada’s democracy. They know that the Liberals have stood by as Beijing interfered in our democracy, targeted and harassed our citizens, and threatened Canada’s interests at home and abroad.
“They also know that a new Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre would put an end to foreign interference in our country, protect Canadians and stand up to Beijing’s aggression.
“The next Government of Canada should be chosen by Canadians and Canadians alone. Only Conservatives will put Canada first and defend our democracy from hostile foreign governments.”
