Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Sikh Heritage Month:

“Every April, Canadians begin a month-long celebration of the Sikh community’s history, achievements and contributions to Canada.

“From the early days of the 20th century, generations of Sikhs have come to Canada with little in their possession besides the hope of a better life. From the first pioneers who arrived to work in Canada’s lumber industry, to the builders of Canada’s first gurdwara in 1908, to the present-day Sikhs living in Canada who make up the largest Sikh diaspora community in the world, Canadian Sikhs have consistently used their skills and talents to better our common Canadian home.

“With incredible resolve, the deep roots they have planted over the years have flourished into thriving businesses, tight-knit communities and welcoming gurdwaras that shine as beacons of light in their neighbourhoods.

“As we recognize this incredible legacy this month, we thank our Sikh neighbours for all they’ve given to Canada and join hands with them in anticipation of the upcoming celebration of Vaisakhi later this month. Happy Sikh Heritage Month!”
